Sturdy, supportive, and broken in.  Well broken in boots that are durable and fit comfortably.  Trail runners are accepted but ankle support with boots is highly recommended.

Please check the boot buying guide Mr. Timm sent before you buy.  Fit is the most important variable and ensure you try them on with a pack on.

Socks

3 to 4 pair

Wool or Synthetic, not cotton. Liners are optional and


help prevent friction and wicks sweet away from foot.

Consider smart wool.

Camp Shoes/Stream Shoes

Used in camp, stream crossing, some backcountry


programs

Must be closed toe and packable.

Sleep Clothes

Only worn in sleeping bag. Light weight T-shirt and Gym


shorts recommended.

Long underwear

Most scouts will bring a top but not bottoms.

Crews should plan on using the least amout of backpacking tents while following all BSA Barriers to Abuse. Weight is 5lbs5oz. Footprint is 88"x54". Personal


tents must be fully enclosed.

We will not use the Philmont tents.  Crew members will bring their own.  Plan sleeping arrangements to minimize the number of tents while keeping youth with more than two years age difference separate.  Only adults may tent alone.

Backpacking Stove

White Gas or Isobutane fuels. Stove needs a widebase low to the ground.  Highly recommend Isobutane stoves being able to burn with canister upside down and


rightside up.
