What can I use scout account money on? Scout account money is earned through participation in the troop mulch sales. It is held for you to use on scouting. However, there are IRS rules governing how you can and cannot use scout account funds. In general, fundraising, including the portion allocated to individual scouts, has to benefit the troop as a whole and not "substantial individual benefit". This can include payments for an individual's portion of unit fees, but not for things that will directly benefit only an individual scout. Troop 1865 uses the following as general guidelines for allowed and disallowed uses of scout accounts. Allowed: - annual scout fees/dues/rechartering (can be reimbursed if paid directly to Scouting America) - campout, summer camp, or high adventure fees - uniforms purchased at scout shop - funding for Eagle scout projects - Eagle scout ceremony expenses - transfer to another scout/sibling upon your departure from scouting - transfer directly to a new troop if you change troops (assuming your new unit utilizes scout accounts and will accept those restricted funds) Not allowed: - durable gear/equipment for individuals (ie backpack, tent, sleeping bag, boots, ) - trading post money for camp - any non-scouting benefit (ie you can't cash out when you leave scouting) Any funds not used once you have left scouting must be returned to the troop's general fund.
