Canoe Trip

Grab your paddle, it canoe trip time!!! Another great Troop 1865 tradition, our annual Memorial Day weekend Canoe Trip will be held Saturday, May 23 - Monday, May 25, paddling down the beautiful Cacapon River in West Virginia.
Canoe trip eligibility:

New scouts (5th grade) are not eligible for the canoe trip

You must have passed a BSA swim test to the level of Swimmer with Troop 1865 within the last year

All scouts must attend the required training. See below
Canoe Merit Badge: Going on the canoe trip AND attending all four training sessions will earn you the canoeing merit badge.
Training: Mandatory training dates

April 27, 6:30-7:30 - St George - Classroom training (for canoe merit badge)

Sunday May 3, 2-4pm - Bull Run Marina - On water training

Saturday May 9, 2-4pm - Bull Run Marina - On water training

Sunday May 17, 2-4pm - Bull Run Marina - On water training
What training do I need to take?

Never been on the 1865 Canoe Trip? You must take all 3 on water training dates

Wanting to take the merit badge? Sign up for all 4 days.

Returning for more fun after prior years on the 1865 Canoe Trip? You must take 1 of the on water training, preference for May 9.

Bull Run Marina:
All on water training will take place at Bull Run Marina. 12619 Old Yates Ford Rd, Clifton, VA 20124
However vehicle access and parking for the marina is by permit only. All participants are to park or be dropped off at the parking lot across the street (left hand side). The trailhead for the Bull Run Occoquan Trail is in the southern part of the parking lot, take the trail and stay to the right. It will dump you out at the boat ramp.
* Depending on your carrier, mobile service may be spotty at Bull Run.

Swim Test: If you are otherwise eligible and do not have a current valid swim test, you may still sign up and participate in training sessions up to that point. However we will need to coordinate a swim test for you, immediately.
Meet: Scouts will meet at St. George’s Church at 6 AM on Saturday. Eat breakfast before you come. Pick up at the University Mall Giant Parking Lot at 2 PM on Monday. Lunch on Monday will be included.
Special instructions: Note this is a Saturday through Monday event over Memorial Day weekend. We will need shuttle drivers on Saturday morning.
