Urban Campout 2025
The Big Apple - New York City
Ever wanted to camp in the big city? Here's your chance! Troop 1865 (B&G) will be headed to the Big Apple for a long weekend of urban camping Friday Oct 10 - Monday Oct 13. We will tent in Camp Pouch on Staten Island. Saturday and Sunday morning, the troop will drive to the Staten Island Ferry and spend the day as patrols in Manhattan.
Activities:
Friday - Drive to Camp Pouch, late night arrival.
Saturday/Sunday - SI Ferry to lower Manhattan. Statue of Liberty tour, entry to tall tower as selected by patrol. Explore the city with the 1865 NYC Game!
Monday - Pack up, drive home. ETA approx 2pm.
Camping: Camp Pouch is in the middle of Staten Island surrounded by residential neighborhoods. It is one of the council camps for Greater NY Council. Just like any other summer camp!
Packing: Tents, sleeping bags, Class A uniform (both days in the city), comfortable shoes (lots of walking), day bag. Be prepared for all weather, including cold and rain.
Meals: Scouts will not be cooking on this campout. The troop will provide cold grab and go breakfast items in camp on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday mornings. All other meals are "urban foraging" and decided as patrols. Pretzel cart? Yes please. Coffee and donuts? World's best! Authentic dumplings in China Town? Of course. Ketchup on a hot dog? Fuhgeddaboudit!
* Note that all urban foraging meals are NOT covered by the trip fee, scouts will need to bring their own money for all meals.
Patrols: Patrols will be responsible for their own members from the time we leave camp to the time they return. Even if multiple patrols are doing the same activity at the same time, patrols will be acting independent. Each patrol will need a minimum of 2 adults
Adults: Each patrol will need at least 2 adults. Adults will be responsible for their patrols between leaving and arriving at camp.
Dates: Fri Oct 10 - Mon Oct 13
Meet: Meet at St George, Fri Oct 10, 5pm. Depart 5:15pm (long drive). Return to Giant, Mon Oct 13 ~2pm.

Sign up closes Monday, Sept 22. We need this long lead time for tickets and other pre-purchase arrangements.
Fee: $125. Includes camping, transportation, Statue of Liberty, a tall tower, and 3 breakfasts (cold, grab and go). Scouts will need additional money for all other meals in the city and any souvenirs desired. Suggest an additional $100 to cover meals.
